Ben Franklin Elementary - Student Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures

The safety and security of our elementary community is our priority!

Parents/guardians are asked to screen their children prior to arriving at school.

A student will be kept  home from school for at least 24 hours, fever free (without using fever reducing medication)

if the child shows any signs of COVID-19 symptoms.

The parent/guardian is asked to  telephone the school nurse that day to discuss relevant health concerns and procedures.

Upon arrival at our school, our students will undergo a daily health assessment that includes a

temperature check with a touchless infrared thermometer.

‘Kid Car’ Drop Off Beginning at 8:30 am

*NEW DROP OFF LOCATION THIS YEAR!

According to the IASD Health & Safety Plan, all children will be screened prior to exiting their vehicle.

  1.  Cars should enter the semi circle area in front Ben Franklin.
  2. Please make sure your child is wearing his/her mask.
  3. Roll windows down so staff members may take the temperature of the child(ren) in the vehicle. If a child’s temperature is under 100.0 degrees,  the child(ren) will proceed into the school.  If a child’s temperature is above 100.0 degrees, the child(ren) will be asked to remain in the vehicle  and should  be taken home.
  4.  Your child should not get out of the car until his/her temperature has been taken  by one of our staff members.   For the safety of our staff and students, we do ask that all adults remain in their vehicles.

Students Arriving by Bus

Teachers and staff  assigned to bus duty will greet the buses in the large parking lot.  Students will be asked to dismiss from the bus one seat at a time.  Temperatures will be checked as soon as students  step off the bus.

Children with temperatures under 100.0 degrees will proceed into the building to  begin their school day.  A student who has a temperature above 100.0  degrees will be escorted to the Nurse’s Office for a follow-up health check.  If the temperature remains above 100.0 degrees, the nurse will follow the district guidelines in regards to sending the student home.

ChChange in Transportation

We cannot stress enough the importance of providing a note if your child is being picked up early or occasionally.  Send an email to your child’s homeroom teacher and our Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Bruner, at [email protected]

Please include the following information in your message:

  • Your child’s (first and last) name
  • The date your child is being picked up
  • Name of person picking up your child

It is best to send the note or email the morning of the pick up and not days in advance.   Calling the school may be convenient for you, but emails/notes are best practice.  Please avoid calls to the office unless absolutely necessary.

Bus Assignments

Bus assignments will be mailed home.  If your child rides a bus and you do not receive a postcard listing his/her bus information, please call the transportation office at (724) 463-7591 during the week before school begins.  For student safety, please do not change buses during the school year.  For cases of family emergency, requests to have your son/daughter ride a different bus must be made in writing and submitted in advance to the office.  All bus students should plan to ride the bus on the first day of school.  Any transportation corrections or problems can be identified if all riders are on board.  If you have a problem and need to speak to someone, please call Krise Bus Service, 724-349-3944.

We will not make any changes in transportation after 3:00 pm.

THANK YOU for your understanding as we strive to keep our children SAFE!

After School Hours:  The School Office closes at 4:15 pm.  If you have any questions concerning your child’s bus, please contact the Bus Company at 724.349.3944.
